Obituary

PEABODY: Elmer James “Jack” West, III, 84, formerly of Wayland, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.
He was born in Hudson Falls, NY the son of the late Elmer James West, Jr and Ruth Fay (Hall) West.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife Gail (Richardson) West of Peabody, formerly of Wayland, Loving father of Susan Fay West of Amherst, NH; Philip Hall West of Beverly and James Richardson West of Bedford. Also survived by 2 grandchildren and one niece.
Jack had been a resident of Wayland for many years before he and Gail moved to Peabody three years ago. He received his BA from Williams College and his MBA from Boston University. He had a long and successful career in marketing and began with Dennison and was also associated with Carter’s Ink and Dun and Bradstreet as well as a self-employed Marketing Consultant before retiring. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy as a Musician and Administrative Commander where he sang on the Ed Sullivan Show in a Navy Quartet. He was a talented musician and music was always his passion. In his earlier years, he was a violinist in New York State Symphony. Jack was a member of the Saengerfest Men’s Chorus and served two years as the President of the organization. He was also an active member of Sound Investment, a “very large octet”. He was an avid skier and sailor and enjoyed curling where he was one of the original members of the Broomstones Curling Club in Wayland. Jack will be most remembered and loved for his remarkable smile.
Private family interment will be held at the West family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jack’s life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the First Parish in Wayland, 50 Cochituate Road (Rte. 20 and 27/126), Wayland Center.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Jack’s memory may be sent to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Unit B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 and would be greatly appreciated.
