Obituary

Joseph Anthony "Joey" Stone, 33, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Marty Everson officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Tuesday.

Joey was born February 25, 1984, in Columbus, Georgia, to the late Carolyn Hawthorne Stephens. He was adopted as a toddler by Marcy & Linda Stone. He attended school in Wilcox County and graduated from Fitzgerald High School. Joey later attended ABAC and Georgia Southern. He was a competitive team coach for In Bound Gymnastics and also coached with Fitzgerald Gymnastics Academy. Joey touched the lives of many children through gymnastics. He attended Cannonville Baptist Church as a child.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Shanna Thompson and her children, Zoie West and Carsen Nation, all of Fitzgerald; three sons and their mothers: Kayne Stone and his mother Brittney Bass and sisters Kaylea Bass and Lona Davenport of Fitzgerald, Jacob Stone and his mother Danielle Sanderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ledger Walker and his mother Whitley Walker of Fitzgerald; his siblings: Jamie Stone of Abbeville, Crystal & Todd Henchel of Grovetown, Lynn & Ron Sayer of Bishop, and Loretta & Jerome Dearing of Bishop; nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Henchel, Sierra Henchel, Brandi Seaman, Tristan Seaman, Christopher Seaman, Wyatt Bridges, and Hailey Bridges; aunts and uncles: Virgil Luther of Fitzgerald, David & Pat Stone of Smyrna, Nancy & Dwight Harman of Kingston, Tennessee, Jennifer & Danny Sharpe of Bluff City, Tennessee, and Kay & Stephen Flemming of Austell; as well as many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents: David & Martha Etta Stone and Ed & Ruth Luther; and an aunt, Emily S. Price.
