Rene J. Pepin, 80, of Woonsocket died Tuesday December 19, 2017. He was the loving husband of Lucille A. (Patneaude) Pepin. They were married on June 1, 1963.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Hamilton and Blandine (Lachapelle) Pepin. He remained a lifelong resident of the city and was a graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy Class of 1955.
Mr. Pepin was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the late 1950s.
Rene was employed at Rhode Island Hospital Trust, Bank of America and Washington Trust Company before retiring.
Rene was a longtime active communicant of St. Agatha’s parish and served as parish auditor.
In his younger years he was a noted athlete at Mount as a member of the hockey and football teams. Ice skating and roller-blading were some of his other off the field abilities. Rene was a self-confessed golf addict – playing as often and as at many courses as he could. He loved the challenge and camaraderie that golf provided.
Rene will be remembered as a devoted father and proud grandfather. A true gentleman, his warm and welcoming manner will be missed but fondly recalled.
In addition to his wife of over 54 years he is survived by two sons Rene Pepin and his wife Hollie of Woodstock GA and Edward “Ted” Pepin and his wife Kathleen of Phoenix, AZ. He was the father of the late Douglas A. “Doug” Pepin who passed away in May 2016. He was the brother of Roland Pepin, and his late wife Yvonne, of Blackstone. He is the proud grandfather of Tayla, Alexis, Zoe and Maxwell Pepin.
His funeral will be Friday December 29, 2017 at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Agatha’s Church, Joffre St. Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
