William D. Lloyd, 90, of Halifax, Massachusetts passed away on December 19, 2017 in Good Samaritan hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Penfield, New York in October of 1927, he was the only child of William H. Lloyd and Blanche L. (Gamble) Lloyd.
After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps to defend our great country in World War II. He was very proud of his time in the Corps and spoke of it often. After his enlistment was over he returned to Rochester, New York (home) and, eventually, got a job in sales with Armour & Co., where he spent the rest of his working life and very successfully too.
In June of 1951, he married the late Theresa Anne Kelly. In the next 11 years they had 6 children.
In 1960 he took up the game of golf which was his passion till his last breath. He retired in 1990 to pursue his golf passion on a full time basis which he did and so loved. Golf and family were his greatest joys. He attended Christ Community Church in East Taunton.
He leaves behind 6 children: William K. Lloyd of Phoenix, Arizona, Patricia A. Pittman of Chandler, Arizona, James D. Lloyd of Tucson, Arizona and Taos, New Mexico, Kathleen M. Cable of Arlington, Massachusetts, John A. Lloyd of San Francisco, CA, and Thomas P. Lloyd of Manchester, New Hampshire; also, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a great friend and confidante John Peck and many other great friends and fellow golfers.
Burial service will be held December 28th at Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at 10:30 am promptly. There will be an informal memorial at Halifax Country Club at 12: 30pm.
