David A. Campo, loving son, father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2017 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. and will be sorely missed.

The longtime Mystic, Ct. native was born October 18, 1917 in Old Mystic to Giovanni and Valentina (Panciera) Campo. He graduated from Stonington High School, joined the Navy in 1937 and was a Gunners Mate on a Destroyer. During WWII he was sent overseas to the Burma-India Theater as an aircraft mechanic. His proud military career allowed him to see much of the world, giving him many stories, which he loved to tell. During his life he was a jack of all trades working as a machinist, parts manager and an assembly man. He even built the house that he lived in until 99 years of age.

David loved sports having played softball until the age of 48 and often bragged that he was faster than all the 22- and 23-years olds he played with and against. He was a big time New York Yankees fan and Dallas Cowboys football fan. One of his finest memories was coaching his son in Little League baseball.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his first wife Evelyn (Cross), his second wife Mary Ellen (Kenyon) Campo and stepson David Kenyon.

He leaves behind his son David C. and daughter-in-law Kay (Burgie) Campo, his brother Anthony and sister-in-law Alice Campo, his daughter-in-law Nancy Kenyon, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A Graveside Service with full military honors has been rescheduled for Monday, January 8, 2018 at 1:00pm in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Old Mystic Baptist Church.
