Richard DeGirolamo, 79

Dateline; Mansfield, MA

Richard DeGirolamo, age 79, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Southeast Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Easton. He was the beloved husband of Beverly A. (Weiss) DeGirolamo, to whom he was wed for fifty-eight years.

Born in Boston, MA on January 24, 1938, he was a loving son of the late Ralph L. and Mary (Coppi) DeGirolamo.

Richard grew up and was educated in Sharon. He proudly served his country as an engine mechanic in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on May 9, 1958.

Prior to retiring, Mr. DeGirolamo was the president and founder of RD Sealcoating in Mansfield. He previously worked for fifteen years at General Motors in Framingham.

A longtime resident of Mansfield, Richard was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. He treasured the times spent with his family and grandchildren, and was an avid golfer, Red Sox fan and a loyal supporter of Mansfield High School sports.

A familiar face in the community, Richard’s daily routines included a sweet tooth for scratch tickets, and unannounced visits with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children R. Scott DeGirolamo and his longtime companion Alisha Mal of Pawtucket, Michael J. DeGirolamo and his wife Tracy of Taunton, J. Greg DeGirolamo and his wife Elena of West Yarmouth, and Lisa A. Barry and her husband Sean of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Ralph DeGirolamo of New York, Joseph DeGirolamo of Foxboro, and Elaine Petralia and her husband Ronald of Needham. He was the adoring grandfather of Andrew, Marissa, Matthew, Michael, Carli, Jack, Josh and Alex. He was also a nephew, uncle, cousin and friend too many.

His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, December 23rd at 11:00 A.M. in St Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Military honors will take place at the conclusion of services and burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 22nd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family has requested and would prefer that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield High School Booster Club, 250 East St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
