Obituary

Richard Chin, 85, died December 17,2017.
Richard was a former Kentucky State Senator, representing the 7th District of Jefferson County In 1966, he ran for his first Senate seat to fill out the unexpired term of one who had resigned. After success, he ran for re-election, winning his Senate seat for six more years.
Richard graduated from Manuel High School, attended U of L’s Speed Scientific School, and graduated from the University of Kentucky.
He was a devoted and active member of Ormsby Heights Baptist Church.
Richard father, Chin Ming, opened the first Chinese-American restaurant in Kentucky, the Liberty Inn at 4th & Jefferson Street. When his father died, Richard took over the restaurant and thus began his career as a
Restaurateur. Through the years, he owned and operated the China Inn on 3rd Street, the LoYang Tea Garden on 4th Street near Broadway, and the Lotus Restaurant on Dixie Highway.
After leaving the restaurant business, Richard worked for the Jefferson County Property Valuation Office, putting his experiences in real estate to use. Recently, he was honored with their “Outstanding Deputy of the year award.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille. Surviving today are his four children, Sharon Thompson (Jack), Richard W. (Kristi), Doug P. (Vicky) and Jason Chin; also he has 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; two sisters Meyly Baratta Hagemann and Mollie Chin Cusick (Eddie) and his furry friend Kali.
Memorial service will be held at 3 P.M. on Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie e Highway.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 11 A.M. until 3 P.M. at the funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the American Red Cross or the Humane Society of Kentucky.
