Joseph Rodrigues, 87, of Westport passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Ellen J. (Simmons) Rodrigues.
Born in Westport, he was son of the late Zulmiro and Ermelinda (Barboza) Rodrigues. A graduate of Westport High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Vocational Education and his Masters Degree in Technical Education at RI College. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United States Army. Mr. Rodrigues was a Communicant of St. George Church and a member of the VFW Ouellette Post 5802, Westport and was an avid Red Sox fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had an incredible love and dedication to teaching, serving the Tiverton School System for 25 years and finishing his career with the Westport Community Schools at the age of 82.
Including his wife, survivors include a son: Joseph Rodrigues, Jr. and his fiancé Christine Sarlo of Fall River; 2 daughters: Cheryl A. Reynolds and her husband Robert of Fall River and Brenda L. Boucher and her husband Armand of Las Vegas, NV; a brother: Francis "Frank" Rodrigues of Meriden, CT; 2 sisters: Almerinda "Mena" Tenchara of Westport and Beatrice Harrison of Westport; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer, Megan, Mikaela and Mitchell; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Antone, Joaquim, John, George and Albert Rodrigues and Helena Tripp.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, December 22, 2017 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 10 AM.
Calling hours Thursday 5 - 8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
