George "Larry" Allen, 78, of Tifton passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Allen at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Lawrence Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Allen Lamb will officiate.
Born April 5, 1939 in Tift County, Mr. Allen was the son of the late Andrew Franklin Allen and Merle Walker Allen. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Laverne Hand and Dorothy Matthews; and one granddaughter, Tiffany Eaton. He retired from International Paper and was a farmer and machine operator.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Myrna Erskine Allen of Tifton; his children and their spouses, Teresa and David Fant, Kimberly and Paul Spampinato, George "Chuck" Jr. and Kathy Allen, Tami and David Eaton and Marty Sandye Allen, all of Tifton; one brother, Benny Allen of Tallahassee, Florida; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express a special "thank you" to Dr. Melissa Rampal and her staff for their exemplary care of Mr. Allen over the past several years. During this time, the staff and patients became like an extended family, whom he cared for very much.
