SALEM- Gaston G. Sirois, age 82, husband of the late Carolyn (Hincman) Sirois, of Salem, died Sunday morning, October 23, 2005 at Salem Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Marcel and Virginie (Chouinard) Sirois and was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1941.
A Navy veteran of WWII, he served in the European-African-Middle-Eastern Area and attained the rating of Signalman 1st Class.
After WWII, Mr. Sirois attended Frankilin Institute and Wentworth Institute, both in Boston, and trained as a diesel marine engineer. He owned and operated the former Boston Diesel Co. in Boston, then later worked for the former Munro Dry Dock in Chelsea before joining the Mass Water Resources (MWRA) where he worked until his retirement in the mid 1990's.
A lifelong resident of Salem, he was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church, and was a life member of the Veraugua Council #76, Knights of Columbus, and was a former member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club in Salem and the Gerry Club of Marblehead.
Mr. Sirois is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Laurie J. Sirois of Cheshire, Conn., three daughters and two sons-in-law, Maryan M. and John P. Mailo, Virginia R. and James R. Fournier Jr. all of Peabody, Susan C. Sirois of Salem, eight grandchildren, Jeffrey T. Sirois, Thomas J. Sirois II, Phillip A. Sirois, Peter W. Sirois, Anne C. Mailo, J. Richard Fournier III, Marc G. Fournier, James D. LeBlanc and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Renald Sirois.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 10 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church at 11 am. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
