Waltraut “Sue” Gibson, 94, of Groton passed away on December 11, 2017, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with family members by her side or in her heart. Born on September 30, 1923 in Rauschenwalde Germany, she was the daughter of Hermann and Marta (Masuch) Willimzik.
On December 4, 1954 she married Lloyd E. Gibson Sr. in Weinheim, Germany and they were together for 23 years until his unexpected passing in February of 1978. Together they had two sons, Gary H. Gibson, who predeceased her, and Lloyd E. Gibson Jr.
She was also predeceased by a companion Howard Branzell Sr.
Sue will be missed dearly by her loving family, son Lloyd and his wife Sheril, their three children Lloyd III and wife Jennifer, Megann and husband Steve McAndrew, and son Ethan; by son Gary’s children Matthew, Daniel, and Lauren, along with her seven great-grandchildren Kayla, Kasin, Ava, Keelan, Cassidy, Colton and Violet who brought so much joy into her life.
She is also survived by her brother in Germany, Helmut Willimzik and the rest of her German family. Sue was also loved and will be dearly missed by her “best friend” Louise Mason.
Sue’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, December 16 from 1:00 to 2:30pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private for the family.
