Obituary


Dorothy M. Mackin, age 92, of Brockton, died peacefully, December 10, 2017 at Life Care of West Bridgewater. Lifelong resident of Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Alfred E. and Doris (Julien) Mackin. Dorothy was a graduate of Brockton High School and Bridgewater State College. She was an elementary school teacher in Brockton for 48 years. She began her career in 1951 at the Paine School and retired from the Arnone School in 1999. At the time of her retirement, she was the most tenured teacher in the school system and was acknowledged for not having used a sick day since 1969. After retirement, she continued to serve the City of Brockton as a substitute teacher for many years. Dorothy’s focus in life was her family, faith and teaching. She was a longtime communicant of Christ the King Church, formerly St.Colman's Church, where she was involved in the CCD program and was a Eucharistic Minister.

Dorothy is survived by her nephews Daniel Mackin and his wife Rhonda of Middleboro, Donald Mackin and his wife Linda of West Bridgewater, and John Mackin of Brockton; a niece Diane Miller and her husband Michael of Raynham; sister in law Beverly Mackin of Brockton and many great and great great nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Alfred J. Mackin.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 8am followed by a funeral Mass in Christ the King Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
