Mr. Robert A. “Chico” Charbonneau, of Taunton, entered into rest Monday, December 11 at Morton Hospital following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband and best friend of 62 years to Isabel “Betty” (George) Charbonneau. He was born 87 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late William J. and Irene C. (Menard) Charbonneau. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, Bob had been employed as a finisher for Reed and Barton Silversmiths for 43 years, then became the favorite bartender for many at the Pioneer Flying Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a Bronze Star recipient for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy. He was a member of the David F. Adams Post 611 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Taunton. Bob enjoyed playing cards and sharing his knowledge of the game, duckpin bowling, playing pool and, especially, spending time with his family and friends. He was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Parish in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 3 sons: Robert Charbonneau and his wife, Joanne of No. Attleboro, Brian Charbonneau and his wife, Sally of Taunton, and Barry Charbonneau and Melissa Kirichian of Norton; 2 sisters: Jeannette Machnik and Pauline Fostin both of Taunton; 6 granchildren: Danielle, Stephan, Marc, Ryan, Myles and Jacob, and several nieces and nephews. Bob was also the brother of the late Raymond, Lawrence, and William Charbonneau, and Theresa Cunha.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Friday, December 15 at 12:00 Noon. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
