Sarah M. “Sadie” (Barrett) Gilbert, age 88, of Brockton, died peacefully, December 5, 2017, at West Acres Nursing Home. Sarah was the wife for 67 years to Robert F. Gilbert. Born, raised and educated in Stoughton, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Purtago) Barrett.
Sadie had been employed by Cochran Shoe in Stoughton and retired from the West Side Shaw’s Supermarket after working 15 years in the Bakery Department. She was a fun loving wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with her daughter and grandchild and dancing.
Sarah was the mother of Karen O’Hearn and her husband Henry “Bud” of Westport, MA; grandmother of Katelyn Difrancesco and her husband Joseph of Rockland and sister of Dorothy Bowker of Brockton, Elizabeth Taylor-Goodwin of Dennis and Naples FL, Robert Barrett of S. Easton and Elsie McCellan of Dennis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday Dec. 13, 2017 5-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Thursday at 8am for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial in Mass National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:15.
