The daughter of the late Louise and Domingo Malaquias, who was a commercial fisherman, she was a loving wife to the late Herman R. DeSilva for 42 years. As a lifelong resident of Provincetown, she recently attended her 70th Provincetown High School class reunion.
Louise will be dearly missed by her family including daughters Cindy DeSilva of Phoenix, Az., Nancy Smith and husband Dave of Lakewood, Co., Beth DeSilva of Truro, and son Paul DeSilva and wife Michelle of Brewster. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The 3rd of 6 children, Louise is survived by sisters, Clarice Dutra of North Truro, Patricia Shaw of Provincetown, and a brother, Paul Malaquias of Hyannis. She was predeceased by her sister, Kay Silva and brother, Domingo Malaquias.
Louise was a mother and a homemaker. Her greatest passion was family gatherings, her flower gardens, and her Congo bar baking skills. As a teenager, Louise modeled on the beach for Henry Hensche. In her younger years, she was active in the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary as well as an avid member of bowling leagues, with her sisters. When the children got older, she and Herman took dancing lessons and, with their friends, they kicked up their heels Friday nights at various Cape dance floors and on Caribbean cruises.
At Louise’s request, there will be no visiting hours.
Family and friends are cordially invited to join us for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 16th at St. Peter’s the Apostle Church, 11 Prince Street, Provincetown. Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery.
