Daniel “Dan” Jackson Griffin, Sr., 83, of Tifton passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Cypress Pond Assisted Living in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mr. Griffin will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 10, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Tommy Griffin, Danny Griffin Jr., Daniel Griffin III, Linc Griffin, Jody Griffin, Johnny Eaton and Tovoris Pickett will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Griffin Ford.
Born December 27, 1933 in Cook County, Mr. Griffin was the son of the late Andrew Jackson Griffin and Nellie James Griffin. He was also preceded in death by one son, Larry Edward Griffin; one brother, James Ethridge “Hambone” Griffin; two sisters, Jeanette Griffin Taylor and Dessie Lee Webb; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Flanders. He was the owner of Griffin Ford-Lincoln in Tifton. From 1960-1969, he owned Tifton Motors; in 1969, he purchased the Dodge Dealership; and in 1986, he purchased Brown Ford, which is now Griffin Ford. He was a member of the Albany Hasan Temple and, in 1995, was the Potentate. He served on the Board of the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association and the Board of CB & T Bank. He was a member and former president of the Tifton Elks Lodge and Springhill Country Club. He attended Tifton’s First Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Lonnie Theus Griffin of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Tammy Griffin and Tommy and Betty Griffin, all of Tifton; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Brandy and Randy Carr, Jody Griffin, Dana and Lamar Flanders, Leila Crutchfield, Linc and Kristen Griffin, Daniel Griffin III and Alyssa Griffin; six great-grandchildren, Katy Eubanks Griffin, Allie Griffin, Andrew Dixon, Parker Crutchfield and Ava Griffin; one great-great grandson, Kayson Dixon; and a special nephew, Johnny Eaton of Tifton.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Seasons at Cypress Pond Assisted Living and Cypress Pond At Home Assisted Living for their exemplary care to Mr. Griffin.
