Barbara J. (McNiff) Tremblay, 88, of Beverly, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 7, 2017 at Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Raymond Tremblay, and the daughter of John and Jeannette (Leger) McNiff.
Barbara was born in South Salem and lived most of her life in that city, until she and Ray moved to Beverly. She served as the soloist for St. James Church in Salem for many years, singing at most church services and performing a gorgeous “O Holy Night” at midnight Mass each year. She later worked for the Salem School Department, first as a secretary for the principal at Salem High School and then at the Bates Elementary School. She adored her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she had much fun, and lots of lobster, with a special group of close friends.
Barbara was predeceased by her daughter Ann Marie (Bunnie) Thompson. She is survived by her sons James Tremblay and his wife Susan of Peabody, Paul Tremblay and his wife Linda Beattie of Peabody, David Tremblay and his wife Susan of Wenham, and Michael Tremblay and his wife Rebecca of Greenville, South Carolina. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1A] Salem on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 9:00 AM to be followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church on the Salem / Peabody line at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Monday, Dec 11th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
