Mary Hartley was born in Anderson, IN, to Georgia Austin and William Hexamer.
She grew up attending St. Mary's School and attended St. Mary's Church.
She married Robert G. Conner in 1941. They had a son, Robert E. Conner, in 1943. Robert G. was killed in France during the Second World War.
She then married Donald E. Conner in 1948. They had her second son, Donald G. Conner in 1949.
Mary married William Lee Hartley in 1957. They were together until his death in 1999. He became the glue that held the family together for 42 years.
Mary was known for her wonderful, helpful disposition and her steadfastness. Her sons cannot remember a single person who spoke a negative word about her. (God knows, we all should be so lucky.)
She actually followed the tenets of her Christian faith by "doing unto others as you would be done by." She was a gentle soul who lived by the mantra that there is good in everyone!
She worked at Sears in catalog sales and Beneficial Finance in accounting. She worked in "smaller jobs" as: census taker, catalogue producer, ice cone dispenser, concessioner, herbalist, phone book distributor (and a thousand other jobs where she could meet the public). She was the consummate "everywoman".
She leaves behind, her two sons, Bob (Sherry) Conner and Don (Debbie) Conner; five grandchildren, Sean (Debra) Conner, Kelly (Charles) Ehinger, Cary (Kent) Risk, Kyle (Tammie) Conner and Katie (Chris) Seago. From those five grandchildren, she has welcomed 13 great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the chapel at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church; 17102 Spring Mill Road; Westfield, Father Kevin Haines officiating.
Burial will follow in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be in the chapel from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service Thursday.
