Obituary

LACONIA - Everett Allen Houston of Laconia, NH, died suddenly on November 28, 2017, while outdoors at the home he built in 1964, age 88.

Everett was born to the late Everett Y. Houston and Blanche A. Houston in New Haven, CT in 1929, and grew up on his family’s farm in Contoocook, NH. He served in the army from 1951 to 1953, deployed in Germany, and achieved the rank of corporal. After discharge, he attended New England College and earned a bachelor’s degree in contract engineering. He worked for the New Hampshire Highway Department for a few years, but then joined the United States Forest Service, where he had a long and happy 30 year career in the White Mountain National Forest, until his retirement in 1993.

Everett was happily married to his wife, Marianne Laura (Manderscheid) Houston, until her death in 2010. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Kurt and Toni Houston, and his daughter and son-in-law Birgit Houston and Douglas Robinson, as well as his grandchildren Christopher and Caitlin Houston, and Eric, Marc, and Tara Robinson. He has one great-grandson, Theo Young. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Donald and Joanne Houston, sisters-in-law Edith and Barbara Houston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Despite the loss of his wife, Everett lived his life to the fullest until the moment he died. His joys came from visiting with his family, watching his grandson Chris play in golf tournaments, watching his granddaughter Caitlin ski, as well as continuing recreational skiing himself. Everett had a passion for the outdoors and could often be found walking in his neighborhood with friends, or working in his yard. He was loved by children young and old, and was well known for his big heart and sense of humor.

A memorial service will be held for Everett at Slusser Senior Center, 41 Houston Drive, Contoocook, NH on December 28, 2017 at 1:00pm. We welcome verbal remembrances and tributes from all who attend.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Everett’s name to the Conquer Cancer Foundation, PO Box 896076, Charlotte, NC 28289-6076 or online at Conquercancerfoundation.org.
