Makris, George P. “Moose” of Wellesley and York, ME. December 3, 2017 at age 96. Beloved husband of Helen G. (Culolias) Makris for 62 years. Devoted father of Philip G. Makris and his wife Jean of Manhattan Beach, CA and William G. Makris and his husband Doug Reed of Somerville. Loving grandfather of Elizabeth C. Makris of New York City. Brother of the late William and Bessie Makris.
George graduated from Northeastern University in 1948, where he lettered in 3 varsity sports and captained the football team. He returned to Northeastern in 1977 as its first Director of Athletic Development and has remained involved until this day. Prior to rejoining Northeastern George completed a 22 year sales career at the Electrolux Corporation, retiring as Divisional Sales Manager. Founding member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Weston and WWII Army Veteran.
Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16) Wellesley on Wednesday Dec. 6 from 4-8pm. Funeral service in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 47 Brown St. Weston on Thursday Dec. 7 at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in George’s memory to George P. and Helen C.
