Alvin A. Robinson, Jr.
Retired Boston Edison Engineer
READING: Alvin A. Robinson, Jr., age 87, a longtime resident of Reading, formerly of Waltham and Stoneham, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Winifred H. (Acton)Robinson.
Born in Malden on September 12, 1930, he was the son of the late Alvin A. Robinson and the late Christine (Gerhardt) Robinson.
Al was raised in the Brighton area of Boston. He attended Brighton Schools and graduated from Brighton High School.
In 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War.
He was awarded several decorations for his active duty service including the Good Conduct Medal and the Marksmanship Badge.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Managing Engineer by the Boston Edison Company, where he worked for 46 years.
Al was a member of the Good Samaritan Masonic Lodge in Reading.
He enjoyed traveling with his family, swimming, maintaining his pool, tinkering with his 1967 Ford Mustang convertible, and was known as “Mr. Fix It” as he could fix and repair nearly any household item. Al also treasured the companionship of his dogs and granddogs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Alvin A. Robinson, III and his wife Elizabeth of Tewksbury and Starr H. Cloonan and her husband Michael of Wilmington; two granddaughters, Miranda C. Allen and her husband Jason of Methuen and Marielle C. Robinson of Jackson, Wyoming; his brother, Earl Robinson and his wife Mary of Nashua, NH; also many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 4-8 p.m. (Masonic Ritual at 4: 30 p.m.) at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. Please Omit Flowers.
