TEWKSBURY: Laurence D. Hammer, age 76, a resident of Tewksbury for 8 years, formerly of North Andover.
Passed away at Hearthstone At Choate Assisted Living in Woburn on Thursday, November 30, 2017 after a long battle with early onset Alzheimer’s.
He was the beloved husband of Diana (Oditt) Hammer, with whom he would be celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary on December 17th.
Born in Haverhill on July 24, 1941, he was the son of the late Charles D. Hammer and the late Eleanor M. (Hills) Hammer; and brother to the late Jeanne Thorpe and her husband John.
Larry was raised in Haverhill and attended Haverhill High. He graduated from Lowell School of Technology with a BS in Engineering. In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his active duty service.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Lucent Technologies (former Western Electric) as a mechanical engineer. He enjoyed traveling, hiking in the White Mountains, restoring and driving his little red ’60 Corvette.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his beautiful and much loved daughters, Leanne Fales and husband, Doug, Joy Palermo and husband Bob; 5 grandchildren, David Sayers, Jr., Kelly Cook (Sayers) and husband Mike, Alicia Fales, Nichole Fales, and Natasha Fales; and 4 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Andrew Cook, Brayden and William Roe; and niece Bonnie Thorpe.
At the request of the family private interment services were held at Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
