Obituary


Robert F. Beland, 85, of Whitman, passed away on November 30th after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Joanne M. (Chase) Beland.

He was born in Whitman, son of the late Henry and Annette (Dubrelle) Beland and a graduate of Whitman High class of 1950.

He served his country in the United States Air Force, during the Korean conflict, as an Airman First Class from 1950-1954.

Robert has been a lifetime resident of Whitman. He worked as a truck driver for the former Cavicchi’s Stores, also worked in local supermarkets as a produce manager for 30 years, retiring from Stop & Shop.

He enjoyed fishing on the Cape Cod Canal and working in his yard and garden. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Joanne, he is survived by his children, Andrew DeFino of Marshfield, Pamela French, Theresa Rose, Charlene Harbison, Robin Webb, all of Florida, Susan DeFino of Rockland and Jacqueline Spawn of Sandwich; also 23 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Thomas and Henry Beland and Ann Mendonza.

His funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 5th at 11:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St ( Rt 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:00PM. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service from 10:00-11:00AM.
