Obituary


Paul E. O’Brien, 64, of Whitman, Massachusetts died Tuesday at his home with his wife by his side. Son of late Charles and Dorothy (Schneider) O’Brien. He was a 1971 graduate of North Quincy High School. He then went on to serve for 6 years as a Naval Air Reservist.

Paul spent 18 years as General Manager of the JL Hammett Co. He also volunteered at VetNet Plymouth and the Greater Boston Food Bank. He went on to work for CGI, Security Design Consultants and American Alarm before his retirement in July.

Paul was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. He especially enjoyed watching and coaching his son Kevin as he grew up. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends discussing the daily events over meals. His cook-outs were legendary as was his meticulously cared for backyard and swimming pool.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Gippert) O’Brien; their son Kevin and his wife Lauren O’Brien of Raynham; sister Karen and her husband John Donahue of Kingston; sister-in-law Mary Beth (Gippert) and her husband Marty Walsh of Dorchester; nieces Maura Donahue, Kelly Walsh, and Colleen Walsh; nephew Patrick Walsh. Great joy came to Paul with the birth of his granddaughter Madelyn Anne O’Brien. He is also survived by many caring friends whom he considered family.

His funeral services will be held on Monday December 4th at 8:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00AM, in the St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the St James Cemetery, Whitman. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 3rd from 2:00-6:00PM.
