LACONIA - Vivian Brassard, 94, formerly of 328 Union Avenue, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017, in the Congregate Living Center of the Taylor Community. She and her family also resided in the summers at their cottage on Gray Road in Sanbornton from 1960-1999.
She was born in Franklin on September 27, 1923, the daughter of Leon and Beatrice (Rainville) Flanders. She was a graduate of Laconia High School and graduated with her R.N. from the Lakes Region School of Nursing in 1941, first in her class for Nursing Practice. She was there upon hired, at the age of 21, as the head nurse of the hospital. She left the practice of nursing to marry Dr. Roger Brassard in 1950, who she was married to until his death in 2003. Together they raised their three daughters.
Surviving family members include her daughters: Ann Saltmarsh, and her husband James Saltmarsh of Laconia, Dr. Deborah Brassard of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, and Mary Jane Farmlett, and her husband Dr. Edward “Ted” Farmlett of Laconia; her granddaughter Ellen Castro of Laconia, and her two great grandchildren Shia and Amar'e. Vivian is also survived by her sister Joan Waite of Bedford, Mass. and her brother Bradly Flanders of Laconia.
Vivian was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, a member of the Nurse’s Alumni Association and involved for many year with planning the reunions of the graduating class of 1941. She was also a Ward Clerk at the Polls for many years.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Andre Bessette - St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St, Laconia.
Burial will follow in the family plot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia.
