Obituary

Winfield S. DeCastro, Jr., 88, of New Bedford died November 27, 2017 at The Oaks after a long illness.
He was the husband of Rita B. (Barboza) DeCastro and the late Ruth E. (Angilly) DeCastro.
Born in Newport, RI, the son of the late Winfield S. and Anna (Reed) DeCastro, he lived in Portsmouth, RI most of his life before moving to Dartmouth in 1995 and then to New Bedford in 2013.
Mr. DeCastro was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He was formerly employed as a farmer with Fairholm Dairy and later was the proprietor of W. DeCastro & Sons Farms in Portsmouth, RI until his retirement.
Mr. DeCastro served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Stephen DeCastro and his wife Patricia of Portsmouth, RI, Richard DeCastro and his wife Laura of Westport and Thomas DeCastro and his wife Darlene of Warren, RI; a daughter, Betty Haylet and her husband Burton of Mary Esther, FL; a step-son, Steven Borges of New Bedford; 2 step-daughters, Donna Marie Desroches and her husband Robert of Acushnet and Judith Borges of Fall River; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren;
He was the brother of the late Anna Briggs, Winifred Briggs, Florence Cross.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 1st at 10:30 AM in the First Church of the Nazarene. His family will receive guests at church from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Portsmouth Friends Church Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Nazarene Missions International, c/o First Church of the Nazarene, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford 02740.
