Obituary

Bernard Clinton Burns, Jr, a longtime resident of Whitman, MA, died Friday, November 24, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in 1955 and raised in Buzzards Bay, MA, Bernie was the son of the late Bernard Clinton Burns, Sr. and Marilyn B. (Reidy) Burns of Buzzards Bay.

He was a graduate of Bourne High School where he played Football and Hockey. He furthered his education at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. After graduation, Bernie traveled the world in the Merchant Marines for ten years. This was followed by a thirty year tenure at the United States Postal Service in Brockton, MA, where he met his beloved wife, Lynne. Bernie was a Deacon in Grace Bible Church of East Bridgewater, MA.

A Master Carpenter, beloved husband and devoted father, Bernie is survived by his wife of 26 years and his three children: Lorien M. Burns of Texas; Bernard Clinton (Clint) Burns, III, of Hingham, MA; and Corey O. Burns, of Arlington, MA. He is also survived by his siblings: Penny M. Worthen of Springfield, Virginia; Pamela J.Smith and her husband, Anthony of Buzzards Bay, MA; Maureen S. Wolfe and her husband Robert of Collierville, Tennessee; Joseph T. Burns and his wife Faith, of Falmouth, MA; and Kara M. Burns and her wife, Ellen, of Wamego, Kansas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held Saturday December 2 at 3:00 PM in the Grace Bible Church, 234 Central Street, East Bridgewater, MA. Visiting hours will be held Friday December 1 from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
