Obituary

Albion Savage Browne, Jr.

(October 31, 1954 - November 26, 2017)

PORTER- Albion (J.R.) Browne, 63 went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his home in Porter, Maine. Born October 31, 1954 in New Haven, CT, he was the son of Marjorie Louise (Crawford) and Albion Savage Brown, both whom predeceased him.

He resided in Portland during his younger years and later moved to West Baldwin. J.R. attended Sacopee Valley High School and immediately joined the US Army. He had many jobs throughout the years and was considered “Jack of all trades, master of some”. For many years, J.R. worked in the Lubec area doing odd ball jobs including: electrical, mechanical, truck driving, digging clams, mill-working, and carpentry to name a few. He enjoyed running the docks at the Portland Press Herald, but always returned to Cherryfield, where he enjoyed raking blueberries and took pride in a hard day's work to provide for his family.

J.R. was dedicated in serving the Lord and took great pride in encouraging others to do the same. He enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing his vast knowledge with all that he could. He enjoyed a simple life, cherished his dogs, and although he was hard and rough on the edges, he would gladly help anyone who needed it and never expected anything in return.

J.R. loved spending time with his family and friends. He appreciated the great outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his lifelong friend, Jack Doughty. J.R. loved playing cards, listening to music, reading, cooking and was an avid chess player.

Survivors include his partner of 15 years, Barbara Jean Smith; 5 children Al (Shaun) Browne of Lubec; Angela Browne and her partner Dan Donaghy of Cooper; Heather and her husband James Smith of Jonesport; Caleb Browne of Machias; Bobby and his wife Ruby Browne of Lubec; sister Bonnie and her husband Kevin Laughlin of Hiram; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Porter Village Cemetery.
