Edgardo M. Duarte, Sr. age 83, of Raynham and formerly of Taunton passed away on November 27, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.
He was the husband of the late Maria E. (Tavares) Duarte.
Mr. Duarte was born in Sao Miguel, Ponta Delgada, Azores, a son of the late Jose and Maria do Anjos (Medeiros) Duarte.
He served in the Portuguese Army and also was a barber in Portugal before returning to the United States. Before his retirement he was a masonry worker and also a cook at Taunton State Hospital for many years. Edgardo enjoyed his trips to the casino and spending time with his family.
He was the loving father of Louis Duarte, Filomena Murphy and husband Robert, Maria Guillemette and husband John and Nina Medeiros and husband Manuel.
Mr. Duarte was also the loving companion of Theresa Arruda , and her children Paula Daniels, Lucy Imora, Ana Vertentes, and Robert Arruda all of Fall River, brother of Hirondina Mota, grandfather of 11, great-grandfather of 4, father-in-law of Greggory Strachoff and brother- in-law of Angela Duarte, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Edgardo was also the father of the late Edgardo Duarte Jr, Mario Duarte and the late Anna Paula Strachoff , the brother of the late Jose Duarte and brother-in- law of the late Jose Mota.
Edgardo’s funeral will be held on Friday December 1, 2017 at 8:45am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Jude the Apostle Church, Whittenton St., Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday November 30, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm in the Silva Funeral Home.
