Christopher Joseph “Chris” Hamel, 46, of Easton passed away November 24, 2017. Chris succumbed to his life long battle with drug addiction. He was not defined by the word addict. Chris was a protector, a lover, and a friend. To the naked eye he had a rough exterior, but anyone that was lucky enough to know him saw his amazingly loving soul.
He was born in New Bedford, the son of Deborah Hamel-Kollars and Donald E. Kollars of New Bedford and his biological father, Joseph Hamel.
Chris was a tradesman that worked in plastering and wall hanging for most of his working career.
He is survived by his parents; his son, Tyler J. Hamel of New Bedford; his girlfriend, Kathleen McDonald of Easton; his siblings, Marcus Hamel and Venessa Kollars of New Bedford; his aunts and uncles, Joy Trudeau of New Bedford, Roberta Ramos of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Salvadore of Margate, FL, and David Salvadore of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his nieces; and his cousins.
His Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Visiting hours will be Friday from 8-9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
