Lillian Schmidt Bennett died peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday, November 22, 2017. Lillian was born in Hays, Kansas on September 13, 1925 to the late Raymond Andrew and Dorothy Leikem Schmidt. She married the late James O. Bennett, Jr on October 6, 1945 then moved from her family farm in Kansas to Atlanta where they resided until J O graduated from Ga Tech. Augusta then became her new home. She was a devout Catholic throughout her life and a member of St Mary on the Hill for the last 60 years.
Lillian was a lover of literacy and reading which lead to her career outside the home. She always had a book and was willing to share the story with all who would listen. She retired from Augusta Chronicle in 1990 where she worked for over 30 years in the proof department.
A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her daughters and their families. Kathleen A Bennett; Dori and Donald Thorstad, Brian and Kristy, Lucy, Bain and Annabelle Thorstad, Kevin and Emily, Caroline and Elle Thorstad; Sue and Eric Sawyer, Elizabeth, Lilly and Matthew Sawyer; Cece and Chuck Cruce; Beth and Michael Mosner, Ben Mosner.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her 11 siblings Clarence, Marcellus, Elmer, Ben, Alfred, Dan, Willard, Martina Maska, Mary Esther Munk, Frances Parker and Annabelle Lietz.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary on the Hill Catholic Church Tuesday, November 28 at 11:30am with Fr Mark J Ross as celebrant. The family will receive friends in the church narthex beginning one hour prior to the service.
