Richard C. Johnson, 81, of Hudson, MA died on Wednesday, November 22nd at Shrewsbury Nursing Home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Rutland, VT, July 2, 1936, the son of Clifford and Matilda (Faignant) Johnson, both deceased. Richard was married on September 22, 1956 to Janet (Bushey) Johnson. Richard worked for several companies in the Vermont area and served in the National Guard before moving to Worcester, MA in 1965. He worked for Norton Machine Tool Co. and Warner and Swasey for 24 years before retiring from Atlas News Co. in 2003. He enjoyed spending most of his time with his family. He also enjoyed camping and watching Red Sox and Patriots games.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Janet B. Johnson of Hudson, a son Richard L. Johnson of Hudson, and daughters Roberta Blake and her husband Christopher of Hudson, Rhonda Casey and her husband William of Longmont, CO; Nine grandchildren, Jamie Johnson and her husband Sean Urban, Michael Blake, Jessica Blake, Jeffrey Johnson and fiancé Paula, Eleni Koumpis and fiancé Benjamin, Derek Koumpis and fiancé Caitlyn, Robert Casey and wife Kat, Susan Casey, Benjamin Casey and wife Grace, and four great grand-children, Tyrae, Arianna and William Sims, Harper Johnson, a sister Rose Loso of Rutland, VT; 2 brothers, Thomas Johnson and Robert Johnson both of Rutland, VT and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Robin (Johnson) Koumpis and her husband Ernest Koumpis, by four brothers, Joseph, Francis, James, John and by three sisters, Marie Johnson, Catherine Jackson and Betty Carabeau.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Shrewsbury Nursing Home, Treasured Moments Memory Care Unit and Compassus Hospice, for the care, comfort and compassion they gave to Richard during his stay.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. in Nordgren Funeral Home 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
