Leo W. Lachapelle, 89, of Church Street, Greenville, died Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Cortland Place. Husband of Delores (Peters) Lachapelle. They had been married for 69 years. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary in February, 2018.
Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Michael and Laura (Richotte) Lachapelle. He had lived in Smithfield since 1955. He was a WWII Army Veteran.
He retired as a Plant Manager from Autocrat in Lincoln in 1988. After his retirement he built a successful coffee service business while he owned and operated a Del’s Lemonade Franchise in North Kingstown. His service to the local community extended into his 80’s where he served as a Eucharist Minister and volunteered at St. Vincent dePaul Food Bank located at St. Philips Church.
Leo’s interests included studying and visiting several key Civil War Battlefields, as well as visiting major religious sites/shrines throughout the US and Canada. And when possible, he appeased his wife, Delores, with travels to significant lighthouses on the Eastern Seaboard.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children: JoAnn Warren of North Kingstown, Beverly Vallee of Smithfield, Karen Conlon of Brewer, Maine, Sandra McCluskey of Smithfield, his sister: Emma Filiatreault of Cumberland, his ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Timothy and Mark Lachapelle and brother of the late Laura Poisson, Lillian Bliven, Arthur Lachapelle, Estelle Pandolfi and Florience Iannotti.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 10am from Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Philip Church, 618 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Visitation Tuesday 9:30-10:30am. Burial with military honors will follow in RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers donation in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
