David Wayne Nickolenko, Sr., 65, of Groton Long Point, CT, beloved husband of Charlene Rogers Nickolenko, passed away at Lawrence+Memorial Hospital on November 17, 2017 in New London, CT after a brief battle with a brain tumor.
Dave was born in Norwich, CT where he attended school and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1970. Immediately following high school, Dave married Lynn Smith and started his family. In 1972, Dave joined the Air Force and served in Illinois and California before moving back to Norwich in 1976. He worked at Thermos and SPM Instrument before co-founding MPS Plastics in Marlborough in the mid-1980s and worked there until his death. Dave lived in Norwich until 1995 and moved to Groton Long Point where he spent the best days of his life, boating, fishing, riding mountain bikes, windsurfing, and being surrounded by his loving family
Dave is survived by his wife of 25 years, Charlene, his sons: Jeremy Nickolenko of Encinitas, CA, David Nickolenko, Jr. of Woodbridge, CT, son and daughter-in-law Brian and Kimberly Nickolenko of Hamden, CT, son and daughter-in-law Brandon and Jennifer Meuse of Mystic, CT, son and daughter-in-law Jaimi and Dawn Meuse of Stonington, CT, son Chuck Meuse of Norwich, CT. His brothers John Nickolenko and Kenneth King; 17 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife Lynn; sister Jan; brother James; and parents Lorraine Dumas Nickolenko and Joseph King.
Calling hours for Dave will be at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT on November 25, 2017 from 10am-1pm. A celebration of Dave’s life will take place immediately following the service at the Groton Long Point Yacht Club for close friends and family from 1-3pm.
