Richard D. Foley, age 91, of Stoneham formerly of Woburn, passed away peacefully November 18, 2017, at the Winchester Hospital following a short period of declining health. Richard was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Walsh). Born in Woburn he was the son of the late Thomas C. and Helen (Veinot) Foley.
Richard was raised and educated in Woburn. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 and honorably served as a Gunners mate during WWII aboard the Destroyer USS Clarence K. Bronson. Richard was an active member of for many years of the Tin Can Sailors. Upon his return home from the service Richard began a long career with the New England Telephone Company and retired after 38 years of dedicated employment. One of Richard's greatest passions was the game of golf. He was an avid and obsessive golfer. He served as a Massachusetts Golf Association Rules Official and was also a proud member of the Francis Ouimet Society.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Sheila A. Foley and Elaine M. Foley, both of Stoneham. Brother of the late Joan M. Richardson, James L., Edward J., Thomas C. Jr., and Robert D. Foley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Monday, November 27th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Calling hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
