Ward, Dr. Edna of Wellesley, MA died peacefully Nov. 18, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, MA at the age of 89. She grew up in Quincy Massachusetts the daughter of the late Harry and Rose Ward. She leaves her partner and spouse, Dr. Ann Briley who loved and cared for her for many years. She also leaves her sister, two nieces, one nephew, and a grand nephew.
Edna loved education. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and went on to receive her Bachelors from Emerson College, her Masters from Tufts University, and her Doctorate from Boston College. She practiced as a speech therapist for a few years and then went on to join the faculty at Emerson College. During that time she received many awards and served as Provost and Vice President yet her greatest joy was teaching her students. Having made many contributions to the college, she retired after 32 years as Professor Emeritus from Emerson College.
She was an active supporter of civil rights, the women’s movement, and a lifelong participant in the Peace Abbey. She was a woman before her time.
Services will be private. Please send any donations to the Peace Abbey of Millis, Massachusetts or Saint Patrick’s Manor of Framingham Massachusetts in gratitude to the staff who cared for her unfailingly with their skill and humor in the last years of her life.
