Obituary

Robert V. O'Connor, 80, of Dartmouth died Tuesday October 18, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Elizabeth H. (Hedlund) O'Connor.

Born and raised in Natick, the son of the late Patrick E. and Lucy R. (Hannon) O'Connor, he resided in Dartmouth since 1966.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in South Dartmouth.

Mr. O'Connor was a Vice President of the New Bedford Institution for Savings for many years until his retirement.

He was a graduate of Natick High School and Boston College.

Mr. O'Connor served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific medal with 3 bronze stars, the American Area medal and the World War II Victory medal.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert V. O'Connor, Jr. and his wife Olga and Paul E. O'Connor and his wife Darlene, all of Dartmouth, and David K. O'Connor and his wife Janice of Rochester, New Hampshire; two daughters, Kathleen E. O'Connor and Mary C. Audet and her husband David, all of Dartmouth; a sister, Barbara A. Raher of Leominster; seven grandchildren, Cara O'Connor, Callie O'Connor, Courtney O'Connor, Brendan O'Connor, Patrick O'Connor, Caitlin O'Connor, and Mackenzie Audet; and nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Edward P. O'Connor.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday October 21, 2005 at 9:45 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday October 20, 2005 from 2-8 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be in South Dartmouth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Southcoast Homecare Hospice, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
