George S. Dwyer (Steve), 73, of Abington, MA, died November 12 at South Shore Hospital after falling ill at his favorite gun club.
The son of the late George and Vedella Dwyer, Steve grew up in Rockland and lived for many years in Weymouth where he raised his family before moving to Abington.
He was a Vietnam-era Air Force veteran who learned to ride motorcycles while serving on the Greek-Albania border.
For the past several years, he had served as a range officer at the Braintree Rifle and Pistol Club, where he recently became one of a select few to shoot a perfect 25.
After retiring from a long career from Xerox, Steve enjoyed traveling, playing pool, and playing with his dogs. In 2006, he married Sally (Sullivan nee Warren) and spent many happy years traveling the country and spending time with family and friends. He had many fond memories of taking ocean cruises with Sally and his dear friends.
In addition to his wife Sally, Steve is survived by his son Scott of Brockton, MA, and daughters Stacy Houlihan of Oregon, Suzanne Cook of New Hampshire, Karen Hoch of Wisconsin, Pamela Sullivan of New Hampshire, Meg Sullivan of New Hampshire, and innumerable friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Stephanie.
He was a good man who loved and was proud of his family and his country and he will be missed by all.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, November 17th from 5-8 p.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, with a service to follow at 8 PM. Burial will be private.
