SPENCER: John Flannery, 76, of Donnelly Cross Road passed away Sunday, Nov. 5 in UMass Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Jean M. (Plante) Flannery, three sons; Mark J. Flannery and his wife Joyce of Bellingham, Francis P. Flannery and his wife Laurie of Westminster and Michael W. Flannery and his wife Stacy of Downers Grove, Illinois, three brothers; William Flannery of Auburn, Dennis Flannery of Colony, New York and Lee Flannery of Harvest, Alabama, eight grandchildren; Julia, Patrick, John, Samuel, Allison, Mick, Hugh & Quinn and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Flannery was born in Worcester, son of William and Doris (Carr) Flannery. He graduated from South High School in Worcester. He received his Bachelors of Arts and Master’s Degree in Education from Worcester State College and a Master’s Degree in Biology from the University of Oklahoma. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1959-1963. After his military service, he was a Science Teacher at Southbridge High School for 35 years retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. John was an avid sports fan and loved all things associated with aviation. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching and bike riding. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren especially when they were fishing and vacationing together.
The funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 17 from J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church Street, Spencer. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 9:30-10:30 AM in the funeral home.
