Elaine C. Schmidt, 70, died November 1st, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her brothers, Robert F. Schmidt and wife Diane, of Naugatuck, CT and Donald J. Schmidt and wife Diane, of Watertown, CT, step son Peter Stzaba, Jr, wife Kim, and daughters Madison and Taylor of Tolland, CT. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, friends, and her beloved fur baby, Diego. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert M. and Lillian (Charbonneau) Schmidt.
Throughout her career, Elaine was very involved in housing development, of which she was very proud. She recently retired as the Executive Director of the Stonington Housing Authority. Her past positions include the Interim Executive Director of the Waterford Housing Authority, Housing Developer for the Corporation for Independent Living, Executive Director for the Bristol Housing Authority, and Housing Specialist for the Town of West Hartford.
When Elaine was not working, she loved to spend time with family and friends, loved to travel and especially enjoyed her vacationing in Mexico, was a gardener and gourmet cook, always loved a party, and enjoyed a great dinner with a great glass of red wine!
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 14th at 6:00 p.m. at DeAngelo funeral home on 22 South Main St, Middletown, CT.
