SPENCER: George N. Gouin 83, of Maple St., died Monday, Nov. 6 at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Marilyn F. (Gilchrist) Gouin, a son Joseph A. Gouin of Milford, two daughters Anne Marie Gouin of Manhattan, N.Y.C., and Elaine M. Gouin of Worcester, three grandchildren; Ryan Poma of Fitchburg, Caitlyn and Kiley Gouin of Southbridge, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Armand and Lionel Berthiaume.
George was a language teacher for 26 years at Athol Junior High School and later worked at the "Big Y" in Spencer for 25 years.
Born in Spencer, he was the son of Adelard and Lydia (Thibault) Gouin and later graduated from the former Assumption Prep and Assumption College in Worcester. He was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish where he was a lecturer and was previously elected a member of the first Parish Council. He enjoyed trips to Wells Beach, ME., attending flea markets, trains, antiques, and holding yard sales at his home. He'll be truly missed.
George's funeral will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish Memorial Fund, 60 Maple St., Spencer, 01562 or Overlook Masonic Healthcare, 88 Masonic Rd., Charlton, MA., 01507.
