Obituary

HINGHAM: Elizabeth “Betty” (Naylor) Starr, 90, died peacefully on November 2, 2017.
She was born in Newton on September 30, 1927 the daughter of the late John B. Naylor and Grace (Charlton) Naylor.
Betty was the beloved wife for 59 years of the late H. Austin Starr, Jr. who died on Feb. 19, 2008. Loving mother of David N. Starr and his wife Sally A. Starr of Plymouth and Jeffrey A. Starr of Falmouth. Devoted grandmother of Andrew Bock of Albany, NY. Mother of the late Judith A. Bock and her late husband Eric Bock. Sister of the late Barbara Flynn of Needham.
Betty spent her formative years in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in Newton. She received her BA in Education from Wheelock College. She began her teaching career in the Newton School System as an elementary education teacher. She left Newton to raise her children in Weston where she resided for 26 years. She returned to teaching and was a nursery school teacher at the Whittemore House in Weston retiring in 1988. She had been a resident of Wayland for 16 years before moving to Hingham 11 years ago.
She and Austin were members of the Weston Golf Club and the Mashnee Island Yacht Club. Betty spent countless hours as a volunteer with the Weston Clothing Exchange and at the Treasure Chest at Linden Ponds in Hingham. Betty loved to spend time gardening especially at her summer home on Mashnee Island. Needlepoint was also a passion of Bettys in which she created countless landscapes and seascapes. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She will be fondly remembered by all of the lives that she touched in her 90 years.
Visitations on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 10:30AM - 11:15AM in the Chapel of the The First Parish Church in Weston, 349 Boston Post Road, Weston Centre followed by a funeral service at 11:30AM in the Chapel of The First Parish Church in Weston. Interment to follow in Linwood Cemetery in Weston.
