Mr. Edward A. DeMattia, A Medford resident for over sixty years formerly of Boston's North End passed away peacefully, November 3, 2017. He was 89. Edward was the beloved husband of the late Ann (Castagno) DeMattia. Born in Boston he was the son of the late Michael and Angelina (Cella) DeMattia.
Edward was raised and educated in Boston and was a proud United States Army Air Force veteran of WWII honorably serving with the 4th Ferrying Group from 1946 to 1947. He worked for many years as a pipefitter and refrigeration technician and for 22 years he worked with the Harris Environmental Systems Company. He was a 45 year member of the Pipefitters Union Local 537. Edward was also a member of the Refrigeration Engineers Society and was a member of the American Legion post 45 of Medford where he served as a past Chaplain and Assistant Finance Officer. Edward was an avid fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics. However his happiest times where spent with his cherished family and especially his daughter and loving grandchildren who he adored.
Edward was the devoted father of AnnMarie DiFraia and her husband Francis of Medford. Loving grandfather of Danielle, Adam, and Andrew DiFraia all of Medford. Brother-in-law of Alphonse Castagno of Woburn. Brother of the late Emidio DeMattia, Helen Corriere, and Antoniette Fiore. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Wednesday, November 8th, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
