Frank E. Carter, Sr.
Avid Stock Car Racer

TEWKSBURY: Frank E. Carter, Sr, age 86, recently of Billerica, a former longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away at the Lowell General Hospital, following a brief battle with Leukemia, on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.

Born in Tewksbury on October 26, 1931, he was the son of the late John P. Carter and the late Margaret F. (Doucette) Carter.

Frank lived his entire life in Tewksbury until 2013, when he sold the home he built himself and where he and his late wife raised their five children.

Frank was employed for many years by Local # 4 as a Crane Operator. In addition, he owned and operated Carter’s Sewer Service until his retirement.

As a young man, he raced stock cars and won many trophies. In 2012, he was inducted into the Pines Speedway Hall of Fame.
After retiring from racing, he spent much of his time going to races both locally and in Oswego, NY and Daytona, FL.

Frank was married to Betty Ellen L. (Hobbs) Carter for 59 years until she passed away on December 9, 2009.

He is survived by five children, Frank E. Carter, Jr., of North Billerica, Mark J. Carter and his wife Carolyn, of Pelham, NH, Steve A. Carter, of Tewksbury, Cheryl A. Chandler and her husband Mark, of Tyngsboro, and Beth E. Carter, of Royalston; ten grandchildren, Jason Carter and his wife Julie, Frank E. Carter, III, Melisa Ciesla and her husband Bruce, Matthew Carter, Julie Chandler, Michael Carter and his wife Carina, James Chandler, Christopher Carter, Kimberlee Braught and her husband Joseph, and Michelle Thompson; also twelve great grandchildren.

Frank was one of eight children, and is survived by his brother, Charles R. Carter, of Englewood, FL; sisters, Pauline Bagby and Priscilla Edgecomb both of Tewksbury.

He was predeceased by brothers, John E. Carter, Sr., Richard Carter, and Daniel Carter, and his sister Helen Gray.

Frank was loved and admired by many. He will be missed.

Calling hours are Sunday, Nov. 5, from 2-6 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, immediately followed by a prayer service to be held at the funeral home. Kindly Omit Flowers.
