John Powers age 85 of Brockton, died Wednesday Nov. 2, 2017 at Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center after a brief illness. John was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Oliver and Alice (Stone) Powers and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
John attended Brockton schools and had been a proud member of the Laborers’ Union, Local 721 for over 50 years. His first union job was on the construction of the Brockton VA Hospital.
John was a handyman who enjoyed working around his house. He will be remembered as a quiet man dedicated to his mother and siblings. He had cared for his mother for the last 15 years of her life.
John was the brother of Margaret Mazzola of Barnstable, Theresa Bowden of Kansas City, MO, Daniel Powers of Buzzards Bay, Mary Mignault of Brockton, Charles Powers of Arkansas and the late Joseph Powers and Nancy Tyler. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday 2-5pm. A service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made in John’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
