Margaret A. "Peg" (Gunning) Murphy, a 56 year resident of Medford and former proud "Townie" of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Little Sisters of The Poor Nursing Home in Somerville. She was 91 years of age.
Peg was born in Boston on June 25, 1926, a daughter of the late John J. Gunning and Margaret (Harte) Gunning. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1944. Peg was a homemaker most of her adult life who cherished the quality time with her family and especially her grandchildren in her later years in life. Peg is a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and Past President of Sacred Heart Parish Ladies Sodality in Medford.
Peg is the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Murphy. She is the devoted mother of Joseph R. Murphy and his wife Carolyn of Wilmington, Maryanne Barto and her husband John of Wakefield, Frederick R. Murphy and his wife Carol of Derry, New Hampshire, John Murphy and his wife Nancy of Melrose and Frank Murphy and his wife Colleen of Melrose. She is the loving Nana Peg to 11 grandchildren and the late Christopher, Liam and Patrick and also her 2 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved twin sister of the late James M. Gunning and sister of the late Mary Walsh, Frederick Gunning, John Gunning, Thomas Gunning and Francis Gunning. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Peg's Funeral on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. He visiting hours will be on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2 to 6 P.M. in the funeral home.
