They moved to Massachusetts in 1939 where he attended Marblehead High School, followed by Harvard College. His college career was interrupted when he enlisted and was assigned to Army Intelligence in the European theater of World War II.

After completing his degree at Harvard, John married the love of his life, Priscilla Eva Mock, and began work at United Shoe Machinery. He later moved to the banking sector working at the First National Bank of Boston, retiring in 1988 as Senior Vice President.

He was a long term member of the Eastern Yacht Club, and relished recreational and competitive sailing and serving on the EYC Race Committee. He was an avid skier, hitting the slopes for over 75 years. Other interests included photography, bicycling, gardening, and building reproduction Queen Ann furniture.

John gave back to his community as a board member or volunteer at many organizations including the Marblehead Museum and Historical Society, Mystic Seaport Museum, ARC, Morgan Memorial, Adult Foster Care and the Goldthwait Reservation.

His love of travel brought him to many places in the world. In later years he took equal pleasure in local destinations and was often seen at the Driftwood or Haley’s and taking a morning walk to Fort Sewall with daughter Leslie.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla, brothers Edward and Frank Stucke. He is survived by his daughters Leslie of Gloucester, MA and Susan, and her husband Jim of Mystic, CT; granddaughter Arianna Funk and husband Erik Lehto of Stockholm, Sweden, and grandson Nathaniel of Marblehead, MA, and 7-week old great grandson Axel Lehto of Stockholm, Sweden.
