Daniel (Dan) M. Lynch, 72, of Plainville, died on Monday, October 16, 2017, following a brief illness.
Born August 4, 1945 in Norwood, Dan was the son of the late James B. Lynch and Kathleen (Sheehan) Metrano. He was raised and educated in Norfolk and was a graduate of King Phillip High School.
A proud American, Dan served in the United States Navy and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was also recognized with the Shellback Certificate, for the time-honored tradition of crossing the equator, not once, but twice in his lifetime.
Dan was also known as a TV personality in New England. He was the leading home renovation expert for the popular and long running Fox 25 TV segment "Do it yourself" in Boston. Hosted with Bianca de la Garza, the duo spent years showing New Englanders how to tackle their own home improvement with ease.
Known to many as “Depot Dan”, He worked for The Home Depot, as a Master Craftsman. A former, full time contractor, Dan retired from owning his own business and became widely known as a published columnist with Milford Daily News, and MetroWest Daily News, with weekly “how to” segments, teaching his readers how to do their own home improvements. After being featured in the Boston Sunday Globe in 2003, his weekly column became so popular, that by 2004, the newspaper was running a “Dear Dan” column, with Q & A on every topic imaginable, having to do with home repair.
He enjoyed many hobbies but origami was his passion. He was known by all who knew him, as the man who could make anything, from a one-dollar bill. Dan will long be remembered in the local restaurants, as the customer who left the “dollar bill ring”, for all who served him.
Dan is survived by his only child, Daniel M. Lynch, Jr., of Plainville, and a brother, James A. Lynch, of Cheyenne, WY.
He is also survived by special loved ones: Eleonore J Lynch, Wanda M Brouwer, Butch V Brouwer, and Mark Brouwer, Nephews: Kevin, Shawn, Nicholas, and James, Jr., Nieces, Kim, Margo, Kandi, Shannon, Kathleen, and Josephine, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
