Edward M. "Ed" Grace, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Care One at Lexington Nursing Home. in Lexington. He was 79 years old.
Ed was born in Boston on November 3, 1937, a son of the late Charles Grace and Palmina (Stella) Grace. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from English High School. Ed furthered his education later in life and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Lowell University. Ed enlisted into the United States Army and served his country with honor and pride during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged. Ed worked as an Engineer for Gypsum Company in Charlestown for over 25 years. He was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge of Masons of Wakefield the Royal Arch Society and was a founding member of the Charlestown Militia and member of the 64th Regiment of Foot (British Regulars). Ed enjoyed traveling with his family and his passion in life was to place everyone around him first before himself.
Ed is the beloved husband of 56 years to Janice R. (Ferriera) Grace. He is the devoted father of Boston Police Officer Edward M. Grace Jr. and his fiancé Jane Mayo. He is the loving Grandpa to Jessica Benjamin and her husband Dwayne, David Grace and his wife Christy, Brendan Grace, Mark Mayo and his great-grandchildren Isaac, Logan and Avery. He is the beloved brother of Rosemarie Ward and the late Margaret Brennan, James Grace, Anthony Grace, Arthur Grace, William Grace, Charles Grace and Joseph Grace. He is also lovingly survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ed's Funeral on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
