James T. “Roogie” Gibbs, Jr. 61, of Enigma, Georgia, died Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with Brother Charles Connell and the Rev. Larry Cone officiating and Jessie Lasseter delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Turner Cemetery in Tift County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Gibbs was born July 26, 1956, in Tifton, Georgia, to the late James Thomas & Mary Elizabeth Brown Gibbs. He graduated from Berrien County High School and was a former employee of KMC as a foreman and also farmed. Mr. Gibbs was a member of the Tifton Skeet Shooting Club and Deep Dixie Saddle Club of Tifton. He also coached the South Georgia Venom Baseball team from Valdosta and the team played in the World Series.
He is survived by his son, Austin Gibbs of Valdosta; a daughter, Emma Katlyn Gibbs of Valdosta; a grandson, Remington Miller; siblings: Richard & Faye Gibbs of Fitzgerald, Tommy Dale & Barbara Gibbs of Enigma, Lynn Gibbs Stuhl & John of Havana, Florida, Randy & Debbie Gibbs of Enigma, David Doss Gibbs of Fitzgerald, Faye Gibbs Coleman of Fitzgerald and Mandy Gibbs Hall & Junior of Albany.
